Preventative Dentistry (Dental Cleaning)

Routine maintenance and preventative dental services are essential for your oral health. In addition to brushing and flossing your teeth at home, it is recommended that all patients have regular check-ups with a dental hygienist at least every six months. The four main treatment options provided for hygiene are scaling, root planing, polishing, and fluoride appliance.

Scaling - Removal of plaque and tartar above and below the gumline.

Root Planing - Smoothening rough surfaces by removing subgingival bacteria.

Polishing - Removal of stains, allowing tooth surface to become shiny and smooth.

Fluoride - Remineralization of tooth enamel.

Each unit of time is worth 15 minutes of dental cleaning, and patients can adjust the number of units for their appointments to match their budget. As per the 2022 BC Dental Association Fee Guide, a unit of cleaning will be charged at $50.50. For example, a patient with a budget of $151.50 can set their cleaning to consist of only 3 units (equivalent to 45 minutes), and a patient with a budget of $101.00 can set their cleaning to consist of only 2 units (equivalent to 30 minutes). Please keep in mind that with time-limited cleanings, there may be work left to be done.
