Your Hygiene Cleaning May Already Be Covered — Crossbeam Dental, Kitsilano
Booking now · Kitsilano · Vancouver

A gentler, more human, hygiene experience

Your cleaning may already be covered.

2:00 — two minutes. That’s the brush time minimum, twice a day. Anything less and the plaque you miss hardens into tartar within 24–72 hours — no brush can remove it. Only professional scaling can. One in three Canadians has gum disease — and most don’t know, because it doesn’t hurt early. A 60-minute hygiene visit catches it while it’s still reversible.

CDCP covers your hygiene cleaning, exam, x-rays, and fluoride for eligible patients — often $0 out of pocket. Private insurance? We direct-bill Sun Life, Manulife, Pacific Blue Cross, Canada Life, GreenShield, and most major Canadian insurers. Uninsured? Written estimate before you arrive. No surprises, no upsells. Most CDCP-eligible patients don’t claim it. Most insured patients don’t track their benefit. We do both for you.

Why most don’t claim it

32%

of Canadians aged 18–34 have avoided the dentist because of cost — even though many qualify for coverage they’ve never enrolled in.

What’s Included

A full hygiene visit. Not a quick polish.

Most patients haven’t had a proper cleaning in years. A real hygiene visit is more than a once-over — it’s the only way to remove tartar that brushing physically can’t reach. Plaque can begin hardening into tartar within 24–72 hours and is largely mineralized within about two weeks.

  • Scaling and tartar removal Hand and ultrasonic scaling to lift hardened deposits along the gumline and between teeth.
  • Polish and surface stain lift Removes coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco staining from the enamel surface.
  • Comprehensive oral exam Dentist-led check for cavities, gum disease, and soft-tissue concerns.
  • X-rays as needed Low-dose digital imaging to catch issues that aren’t visible in a surface exam.
  • Fluoride application Strengthens enamel and reduces sensitivity. Quick rinse at the end of the visit.
  • Personalized at-home guidance Brushing technique, interdental tips, product recommendations — tailored to your mouth, not generic.
Close-up before and after a hygiene cleaning: tartar buildup and stains at the gumline on the left; a clean enamel surface and healthy gumline on the right.
BeforeAfter
A single hygiene visit removes the hardened tartar that brushing physically can’t reach.

When my wife’s veneer came off we weren’t even their patients yet. I called around 11 in the morning — they got the doctor on the phone and ended up staying after hours to fix everything. You really feel like they care about you as a person, not just as a patient.

Do You Qualify?

Three things to check. That’s it.

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is the federal government’s public dental program. Eligibility is straightforward and based on three criteria. If all three apply to you, your hygiene cleaning is likely covered — and many patients pay $0 out of pocket.

Source: Government of Canada — Canadian Dental Care Plan, canada.ca/dental.

Annual family net income under $90,000 Based on your most recent tax return. Co-pay tier scales with income; under $70,000 means no co-pay.
No access to private dental insurance Through an employer, pension, or family member’s plan. Provincial programs don’t count against you.
Filed your most recent tax return You and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable). The CRA uses this to verify income.
If all three apply, your cleaning is likely covered. Many of our patients pay $0 out of pocket. We’ll verify eligibility when you book — takes about two minutes.

Common Concerns

We’ve heard it before. Let’s address it.

“I haven’t been to the dentist in years and I’m embarrassed.”

We don’t keep score. Roughly 1 in 3 young Canadian adults haven’t been to the dentist in over a year, and many of our patients arrive after a long gap. You’ll get the cleaning you need — not a lecture.

“Will I be upsold once I’m in the chair?”

No. You get a written estimate before the visit — including any small co-pay or extras — so there are no surprises. We recommend conservative care first.

“What if I don’t qualify for CDCP?”

We check at booking. If you don’t qualify, we’ll tell you the hygiene visit fee plainly — no bait, no obligation to proceed. You decide from there.

“I have dental anxiety.”

You’re not alone — about 7 in 10 adults report some fear of the dentist. Tell us at booking and we’ll adjust the pacing, take more breaks, and let you signal anytime to pause.

“What about my kids?”

CDCP covers eligible children too. Family appointments are welcome — we’ll verify each family member’s eligibility when you book.

“I’m busy — can I get a Saturday appointment?”

Yes. We offer Saturday appointments and evening hours Tuesday and Wednesday. Tell us your scheduling constraints at booking.

Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

Canadian residents with an adjusted family net income under $90,000, no access to private dental insurance, and a filed tax return for the most recent year. Eligibility is determined by the federal government, not by us. We verify your status at booking using the information you provide.

CDCP covers a comprehensive hygiene visit — scaling, polishing, exam, x-rays as clinically required, and fluoride — on the standard schedule the federal program defines. Frequency and units of scaling are set by the plan; we’ll explain what’s included for your specific case when we verify eligibility.

You won’t qualify for CDCP, but we’ll quote you the hygiene visit fee plainly so you can decide whether to proceed. Many patients in this position book anyway because we’re transparent on price and they’ve been putting off a cleaning for too long.

Usually within a single phone call or short web-form exchange — about two minutes of your time. We then submit a pre-determination to Sun Life (the CDCP administrator) before your visit so your estimate is firm.

Yes. CDCP covers eligible children, and we welcome family appointments. We’ll verify each family member’s eligibility when you book. Children’s hygiene visits follow the same covered-services list.

CDCP eligibility uses the most recent tax year on file with CRA. If you have a recent return on file, you’re fine. If you’ve missed the most recent year, file it as soon as you can — we can still book you a visit at the published hygiene rate and reassess CDCP coverage once your return is processed.

If you’re already enrolled in CDCP, bring your benefits card or member number. If you’re not yet enrolled, we can walk you through the federal application during booking. A piece of ID and your provincial health card are helpful but not required to book.
